Pont de Chatillon, dit « le Châtion » - Pont Roman

Route d'Airvault, à la limite des communes de Faye l'Abbesse et de Boussais, le pont ancien, pont Saint Louis ou de Châtillon, enjambe le Thouaret avec 2 arches en plein cintre ; il a été construit pense-t-on vers 1200 ; c'est un pont roman (souvent qualifié à tort de pont romain).
En aval, à une centaine de mètres, une levée de terre sur le trajet de l'ancienne chaussée aboutit à un massif de maçonnerie. Cette ancienne culée de pont gallo-romain est un vestige unique dans la région d'un pont de cette époque. Il démontre qu'il existait jadis une bretelle de la voie romaine de Poitiers à Nantes passant par La Grimaudière et le gué de Soulièvres. Le pont actuel a été construit en 1852.

On the Airvault way, on the border between the municipalities of Faye l'Abbesse and Boussais, the old bridge, known as the Pont Saint Louis or Pont de Châtillon, spans the Thouaret with two semicircular arches. It is thought to have been built around 1200 and is a Romanesque bridge (often mistakenly referred to as a Roman bridge).
Downstream, about a hundred metres away, an earth embankment on the route of the old road leads to a masonry structure. This ancient Gallo-Roman bridge abutment is a unique remnant of a bridge from this period in the region. It shows that there was once a branch of the Roman road from Poitiers to Nantes passing through La Grimaudière and the Soulièvres ford. The current bridge was built in 1852.
