Promenade du Chemin du Pré Chambert

A l’entrée du Pont des chouans, construit au XIIIème siècle, puis fortifié au XVème siècle, dont le nom actuel est lié aux guerres de Vendée, coule un bras du Thouet, non loin de sa porte médiévale et son immense barbacane, qui porte le nom de “Petite eau”. Cette dernière marque la frontière naturelle entre la commune de Saint-Jean de Thouars et Thouars. La “Petite eau” circulait autrefois sous un passage composé de deux arches. Seule l’une d’elle est visible aujourd’hui
Continuant votre promenade en longeant le Thouet, vous êtes en bonne place pour admirer, le château des Ducs de la Trémoïlle construit au XVIIème siècle sur son éperon rocheux, et à son pied l’ancien moulin de l’abbesse avec son bief, ainsi que la chapelle Notre Dame du château, édifiée au XVIème siècle, ainsi que le cirque représenté par l’ancien mur d’enceinte de la cité.

When you enter the Pont des chouans, there is a bridge built in the  XIII th century and fortified in the XV th whose name sends us back to the wars of Vendée. Underneath flows a branch of the Thouet. It bears the name of the bridge and is situated near the Medieval bridge door and its big barbican.  This is the natural border between the town of Saint-Jean de Thouars and Thouars. La “Petite eau” used to flow under a corridor made of two arches. Only one of them is still visible today.
If you continue walking along the Thouet, you can admire the castle of the Dukes of La Trémoïlle built in the XV th century on its rocky outcrop. At its foot the old mill of the abbey reach. Near the castle you will also find the chapel of Notre Dame du château, built in the XV th century, as well as the cirque représented by the city wall
