🇫🇷 𝟴𝟱 𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗿𝗲̀𝘀, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗺 𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲́𝗲𝘀

Unies à jamais par le sacrifice de deux soldats Anglais tombés lors de la défense de la ville de Provin face aux troupes allemandes au début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ces deux villes ont noué un lien indélébile : celui d’une volonté commune de préserver les valeurs fondamentales de liberté, d’égalité et de fraternité.

En cette année du 80ᵉ anniversaire de l’armistice du 8 mai 1945, et pour les générations à venir, il est essentiel de continuer à honorer la mémoire de ces hommes, français ou étrangers, tombés au combat. Leur courage nous rappelle, chaque jour, l’héritage dont nous bénéficions et la responsabilité de le faire vivre.

C’est à l’issue d’un déjeuner partagé ce jour avec douze membres de l’association des anciens combattants de la ville de Durham qu’un hommage a été rendu au Sergent-major de peloton William Norman THOMPSON et au Musicien Matthew LEVEE.

Monsieur le Maire et le Conseil municipal tiennent à remercier chaleureusement le Durham Light Infantry Association – Chester-le-Street Branch pour leur venue à Provin.

Forever united by the sacrifice of two British soldiers who fell during the defense of the town of Provin against German troops at the beginning of the Second World War. These two towns have forged an unbreakable bond : a shared commitment to preserving the fundamental values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

In this year marking the 80th anniversary of the May 8, 1945 Armistice, and for the generations to come, it is essential to continue honoring the memory of these men, French or foreign, who fell in battle. Their courage reminds us every day of the legacy we inherit and the responsibility we bear to keep it alive.

Following a lunch shared this day with twelve members of the Durham city veterans association, a tribute was paid to Platoon Sergeant Major William Norman THOMPSON and Musician Matthew LEVEE.

The Mayor and the Municipal Council wish to warmly thank the Durham Light Infantry Association – Chester-le-Street Branch for their visit to Provin.
